Brain Injury Survivor's Guide

Delayed Success is still Success

Bill Clinton served America as its 42nd president. Before that, he served as Arkansas governor. Before that, he was Attorney General for the state of Arkansas. Before that, he was defeated in his very first attempt to become a United States Congressman.

President Clinton never became a Congressman. He never ran for that office again. He changed his focus and set out in another direction. He never gave up on the idea of national politics and becoming President of the United States.

Abraham Lincoln served America as its 16th president. He was elected in 1860. Two years earlier he ran for the United States Senate against Stephen A. Douglas...and lost!

Lincoln was born in Kentucky. His family moved to Indiana when he was eight years old. Then, when he was ten, his mother died. He once said, "Of course when I came of age I did not know much. Still somehow, I could read, write, and cipher ... but that was all."

Lincoln was able to take his ability to read and write and use it to become a lawyer. His law partner said, "His ambition was a little engine that knew no rest."

It was Lincoln's ambition, his Never Give Up! attitude, that led him to become one of American's favorite presidents.

Like Presidents Clinton and Lincoln, we may not succeed in our first attempts...or, even, our second or third. Establishing a productive life after brain injury is not the easiest thing a person will ever do.

It can be done. Beth Jameson is just one success story. Courtney Larson, Donna Jones, Claudia Osborn, Barbara Mandrell...the list of persons who have moved forward into a "world after brain injury" is a long list.

Like President Clinton, you may need to change your focus. Like President Lincoln, you may have a lack of knowledge to overcome.

By now, you should know Beth's favorite phrase:

"Knowledge is Power to a Brain Injured Person."

Our goal is to help you gain knowledge you need. Our goal is to help you change your focus if necessary. Our goal is to provide a community of people who will help you.

Become an active part of our community ...and never give up!
