Brain Injury Survivor's Guide

Perservance - Never Give Up!

Never Give Up! You saw those words on the back cover of our book, Brain Injury Survivor's Guide. You saw those words in the book several times.

Perserverance: steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. (from dictionary.com)

Brain Injury certainly brings difficulties, obstacles and plenty of discouragement into the lives of everyone affected. Family members find an equal share of difficulties facing them when trying to do "what is best" for a loved one who has suffered brain injury.

Brain Injury victims received their life-changing because of an unexpected and unwanted event in their lives. Now, they must move forward. They must exercise steady persistence in a course of action. They must Never Give Up!

Thomas Edison was a great American inventor.

Thomas Edison was an American inventor who lived in the 1800's. His 1,093 inventions included what we now know as lightbulbs for the home, a device that played words known as a word phonograph that eventually led to the creation of the music industry, and motion pictures.

He once said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

Thomas Edison spoke about never giving up. He said, "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Like many of us, Edison had someone special in his life. About his mother, he said, "My mother was the making of me. She was so true, so sure of me, and I felt I had some one to live for..."

Family, friends and co-workers can play a special role in helping a brain injured person perservere toward a new life, new skills, new memories: a life of inspiration and hope.

Like Edison, we may discover 10,000 things that don't work. Our goal, together, is to find those that do work...and never give up!
